An investigation is underway at a northwest Miami-Dade apartment complex after the sheriff’s office said a man was shot by his girlfriend after a “heated dispute” early Wednesday morning.
Few details have been released, but the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place at the Centre Lake Apartments off Interstate 95 by the Golden Glades Exchange.
“I woke up first, I heard screaming,” one witness told CBS News Miami. “But it just kept going, and I hear the baby crying.”
That witness said that they they looked out the window and saw the fight escalating.
“We see the mother holding the baby, and they’re kind of like arguing and screaming, and they were just going back and forth,” the witness said. “She was saying, ‘Get away from my baby. Get away from my baby. Get away from me,’ and he kept coming close to her.”
At one point, a witness said the man started to punch car windows. CBS News Miami did see a car window with a hole in it.
“He started punching and punching her car windows and everything,” the witness said. “And then he threw something.”
They called 911.
“He was about to go back in the house, and she was like, ‘Don’t go back in the house.’ I guess because she had another kid in there,” the witness said. “She was like, ‘Don’t go back in there with my kid.'”
CBS News Miami watched as investigators escorted what appeared to be a young boy, about 5-years-old, into the back of an unmarked vehicle that remained on scene for hours.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the girlfriend shot her boyfriend in the arm.
Paramedics transported him to a hospital in critical condition. She was taken into custody.
