“Paradise” star Sterling K. Brown may be working overtime on all of his various projects, but for now he’s thrilled to be working close to home.
“I got the two young boys at home, and so I try to be at home as much as possible so I can witness their growth and evolution,” he said on the March 23 episode of TODAY With Jenna & Sheinelle.
Together with wife Ryan Michelle Bathe, Brown is raising sons Andrew, 14, and Amaré, 10.
“Very few things shoot in L.A. and so for the past 10 years, I’ve been able to shoot at home and go to bed to be with my wife and my kids,” said Brown, who appeared on Jenna & Sheinelle also as brand spokesperson for Shipt, a same-day delivery service.
Even on the homefront, things are busy for Brown: he’s a basketball coach for his 10-year-old son, Amaré. The night before this season’s championship game, Brown says he couldn’t sleep.
“I slept about four hours the night before. I texted my friends, like, I don’t know what I’m gonna do if he loses this game, because he lost last year,” Brown explained. “It’s like the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat and seeing a 9-year-old just drop down in tears.”
There were no tears this year, however.
“They went out there and they beat the butts off that other team. I felt bad for them, but I felt good for myself,” Brown joked.
“We also have a philosophy, and it the philosophy is: offense wins games, but defense wins championships. And defense is all about effort,” Brown said. “If you work harder than anybody else out there, they cannot beat you.”
Amaré, it seems, was working hard this game.
“My boy went out there and beat the bricks off this kid,” Brown bragged. “He scored 28 points the first time we played them earlier in the season and they beat us. He (only) scored 6 points this time.”
