Tattoos may be subjective, but their existence on your skin is a fact that will score you a free burrito today.
On March 13, Chipotle will celebrate its tatted superfans — or tattoo wannabes — with a one-hour, buy-one, get-one-free (BOGO) offer Friday, March 13, from 3 to 4 p.m. local time in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Germany.
Chipotle says the phrase “tatted like a Chipotle bag” comes from a 2019 post on X comparing a shirtless Adam Levine to the black line artwork on Chipotle’s to-go bags. And this now-recurring event (the first one was in June 2025) falls on Friday the 13th because, well, it’s a popular day to get inked.

To unlock the BOGO deal, Chipotle says customers simply need to show up in-restaurant during the one-hour “flash” window with any tattoo — whether it’s permanent ink, temporary tattoo or even drawn on with a Sharpie.
The fine print: The promotion is limited to five free menu items per check and subject to availability.

While the “tatted like a Chipotle bag” meme gained wider public recognition in 2019 as a joke at Levine’s expense, the first known comparison of Chipotle bags to tattoo sleeves dates to 2015, with a much more controversial comparison from X user @Headgraphix.
Since then, people have used the phrase across social media to make more memes and jokes.

This year, Chipotle is partnering with tatted Chipotle superfan and multi-platinum-selling hip-hop artist Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd to co-create an exclusive temporary tattoo flash sheet. The company says Lee’s designs are “inspired by the bold, passionate rambling artwork fans know” from the chain’s takeout bags.
“‘Tatted like a Chipotle bag’ is really about self-expression,” Swae Lee said in a press release. “It was cool to bring it into the real world and create designs that actually feel like me.”
Miami is home to Swae Lee and considered one of America’s most tattooed cities, which is why the Swae Lee x Chipotle designs are exclusive to one singular restaurant, in Midtown Miami (3201 N. Miami Ave., Miami, FL 33127) on Friday, March 13, from 3 to 4 p.m. ET, while supplies last.
