Video shows Margate detained on suspicion of shoplifting. Weeks later, she’s charged in connection to 10-year-old daughter’s disappearance

CBS News Miami received bodycam video of the moments a Margate woman was arrested on a shoplifting charge.

Weeks later, she was taken into custody again — this time for child neglect. Her 10-year-old daughter has been missing for months and is still nowhere to be found.

Margate Police detained Passha Davis back in October after a Dollar Tree employee reported a shoplifter. Bodycam video obtained by CBS News Miami captured what happened next.

“Do me a favor and put your hands behind your back,” the police told Davis. “Right now, you are being detained pending a criminal investigation, okay.”

“What is the investigation?” Davis asked.

“Possible theft and a battery,” police replied.

That is 34-year-old Davis being handcuffed on Oct. 17. Margate Police officers stopped the woman near the Dollar Tree in the 300 block of South State Road 7.

“You are a person matching the exact description, wearing all black, wearing a backpack and orange socks,” police continued.

“Okay, so someone described me,” Davis said. “We don’t even know if it’s true or not.

“We’re going to do our show identification to positively identify you or not identify you,” police said.

Moments later, the officer walks over to a bush, puts on a glove, reaches down and pulls out what seems to be a jacket full of items.

He then walks it back over to the hood of the police vehicle and drops it in front of Davis, who stood stoic.

“Munchies?” the officer asked.

“She’s just gonna stare at me or are you going to tell me what happened?” Davis asked in response.

“I don’t know how to explain it more thoroughly,” police said.

“You explain why I can’t read the law?” Davis said.

Numerous times throughout the video, Davis refuses to give officers her name and asks why she’s being charged.

“I don’t think it’s fair [to] I give out my name,” she said. “I want a lawyer.”

“I’m not asking you any questions pertaining to the crime, so you’re not entitled to one right now,” the officer said.

“I want a lawyer,” Davis said again.

Davis would eventually be charged with false identity given to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Mother arrested as search intensifies for missing 10-year-old in Broward County

Just 12 days after her arrest, her 10-year-old daughter Gabrielle Terrelonge was reported missing by the girl’s father. Then last week, Davis was charged with child neglect in connection with the disappearance.

Authorities said Terrelonge was last seen with her mother, getting off a bus in the Orlando area on June 30.

In bond court, a judge asked Davis’s attorney about her daughter’s whereabouts.

“Allegedly, she doesn’t know where the child is?” the judge asked.

“Your honor, [what] was understood is [that] she has not said anything — it’s not known if that’s actually accurate,” the attorney told the judge. “She has not given any piece of information about the last time she saw the child.”

Local, state and federal law enforcement are investigating, trying to find the missing girl.

If you’ve seen Gabrielle Terrelonge, you’re urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
