Should the Monday after Super Bowl be a national holiday? Tom Brady thinks so in new ad

Tom Brady wants the day after the Super Bowl to be a national holiday.

The NFL legend appears in a new ad with actor and comedian Druski for food and delivery service Gopuff that dropped exclusively on TODAY on Nov. 25 to throw their support behind the idea.

“Nobody wants to work the Monday after the biggest game in football,” Brady says in the commercial.

“That’s why Gopuff wants to help you give it a hard pass,” Druski says. “What if we could pass on coffee runs?”

Brady, winner of seven Super Bowl titles in his career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then fires a football at an unsuspecting office worker carrying some java. He also drills other employees as they talk about favorite commercials and expense reports and engage in office gossip.

“Gopuff is setting up a real political fund dedicated to making the Monday after the big game a national holiday,” Brady says, as a graphic with the words “Super Monday Off Coalition” appears on the screen.

Druski then tells one of the office workers there are government officials and lobbying involved before Brady explains interested people simply have to order on Gopuff and “they’ll handle the rest.”

The Super Monday Off Coalition is “a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to making the Monday after the Big Game a federally recognized holiday through advocacy and political action,” Gopuff said in a press release.

“Going into work the day after the big game? Hard pass,” Brady added in the release. “A massive number of employees unexpectedly call out of work the day after the Big Game, creating a huge headache for businesses across the country and a drag on our economy. That’s why I’m deepening my partnership with Gopuff to tackle this problem head-on. Together, we’re supporting The Super Monday Off Coalition and advocating for an official holiday after the Big Game.”

Making the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday is an idea that has been simmering for years, with a UKG poll earlier this year finding 43% of employed Americans saying should be.

“The Big Game brings every single American together,” said Yakir Gola, co-founder and co-CEO of Gopuff, in the press release. “That’s why the Monday after the Big Game must become Super Monday — an official federal holiday that honors our love for competition, victory and the greatest country on Earth.

“By supporting The Super Monday Off Coalition, we’re putting real action behind a cultural truth. Now, the President and Congress have a chance to do something truly historic — to recognize a tradition that already unites this country and create a national holiday Americans will celebrate for generations to come.”

There are currently no plans to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told TODAY in September the potential to play the game before Presidents Day does exist, if the league moves from its current 17-game regular season to an 18-game slate.

“I think if you went to 18 weeks regular season that would probably occur,” he said. “It is possible somewhere in the calendar. Could happen before that just because of the calendar, the way it lays out. But I think 18 weeks would get you to that point, and I think it would be a really great move.”

The next Super Bowl — Super Bowl 60 — will be played Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home of the San Francisco 49ers. Presidents Day is on Feb. 16 in 2026.

Tanner Dikan, a 13-year-old from Topsfield, Massachusetts, got the opportunity play catch with NFL legend Tom Brady and meet other big name athletes thanks to Fanatics and Make-a-Wish.
