Speakeasy | Miami Beach
The h.wood Group is partnering with Rivani to open a speakeasy in South Beach.
Los Angeles-based h.wood Group will open a 2,000-square-foot exclusive speakeasy on the third floor amenity level at The Rivani building next summer, according to a Rivani news release. The speakeasy hasn’t been named yet.
Robert Rivani is working on a $40 million renovation of the seven-story mixed-use The Rivani at 1691 Michigan Avenue in Miami Beach. The building has been marketed as “Class X” to denote the high caliber of the building once it’s finished.
The speakeasy will be Tokyo-inspired, the release says. Rivani, who moved his eponymously named firm (previously called Black Lion) from Los Angeles to Miami in 2022, has said in a previous interview with The Real Deal that Japan is his “favorite place in the world.”
Rivani made a splash in August, announcing that PLBY Group, the Los Angeles-based publicly traded company that owns Playboy magazine, its website and its trademarks, will move its headquarters to The Rivani. Also, Monarch Athletic Club leased 8,000 square feet at the building, where it’s expected to open next year.

The lease follows Swedish candy store ScandyCandy and British childrenswear boutique La Coqueta opening at Royal Poinciana Plaza.
The 192,000-square-foot plaza was originally developed in the 1950s and includes retail space, gardens and two courtyards. Boston-based WS Development owns the leasehold of the plaza. The property is owned by a trust led by Sidney Spiegel, according to records.

Spicy Hospitality also is the firm that opened The Joyce in Miami Beach at 448 Española Way.
