Jason Kelce wants to kick off the holiday season right.
The former Philadelphia Eagles star revealed that he’s engaging in a 48-hour fast with fellow NFL alum Marcus Spears ahead of Thanksgiving celebrations — and he’s less than thrilled about it.
“Marcus Spears and I agreed to do a fast,” he told his brother Travis Kelce in the Nov. 26 episode of the the duo’s New Heights podcast. “This is what happens when you retire. You f—— do stupid s— like this, and I agreed to do it. It’s over tomorrow morning. I’m not gonna do it for Thanksgiving. I’m gonna eat my face off on Thanksgiving.”
The 38-year-old — dad to daughters Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finnley, 5 months, with wife Kylie Kelce — shared that the dieting decision came after noticing a weight increase, in part due to his family’s latest Disney World trip.

“I just feel bad about myself because I was at Disney World and ate a bunch of freaking egg rolls and a bunch of other things that probably aren’t the best with Dole Whip and all these,” he continued. “Then I went to Wisconsin and shoved the prime rib and an ice cream drink down my face and wings, and the weight’s been going up.”
But the ESPN analyst admitted that he’s having a tough time as the fast comes to a close, adding, “So, yeah, we’re going on a fast. I’m about thirty-six hours in. Just the smell of food.”
As for whether he thinks the fast is healthy, “I think if you don’t eat food for long enough, it becomes unhealthy,” he explained, before noting that he’s heard how “apparently, if you do it for the right amount, it’s healthy. I don’t know.”
But his fast seems to end at the perfect time, and Kelce already has turkey on the brain. As he put it, “I might eat a whole turkey by myself by that point.”
But that may not just be from the hunger. It turns out Kylie — whom he wed in 2018 — makes a mean main course.
“Kylie puts the cranberry sauce on,” he noted of Kylie, 33. “I mean, her mom and her make a turkey, too. I’m just a huge inconvenience on Thanksgiving because Kylie and her mom are making everything.”
And even though he’ll be coming off a two-day fast, Kelce fully intends on having seconds this Turkey Day, which is a long-standing tradition with his dad, Ed Kelce.
“Instead of just, like, watching the kids, I go next door and fry a turkey with Ed,” he explained. “So, for an hour of the day, I’m just completely useless and making an extra turkey that we don’t need.”
Fire departments say that forgetting to thoroughly thaw your Thanksgiving turkey before putting it in the deep fryer could have explosive results.
