Chili’s ‘Wicked’ margaritas are apparently wicked strong

A pair of green and pink drinks are causing customers to defy gravity.

“Wicked: For Good,” is hitting theaters on Nov. 21 and, in the lead-up to Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) belting their way into our hearts once more, food brands and restaurants have released “Wicked” treats: churros, cereal, macaroni and so much more.

But no collab has intoxicated people quite like Chili’s “Wicked” Margaritas — literally.

All over TikTok, customers are sipping, slurping, gulping and, in some cases, double-fisting Chili’s movie-themed margaritas.

  • The Good Witch Marg is pink in Glinda’s aesthetic and made with blanco tequila, triple sec, dragon fruit syrup, sour mix and topped with soda water and a swizzle stick wand.
  • The Witches Brew Marg is green like Elphaba and has blanco tequila, blue curacao, granny smith apple syrup, sour mix and garnished with a swizzle stick shaped like a broom with a witch’s hat on top.

Both margaritas cost $6 each. When cocktails these days can go for $20 or more these days, Chili’s drinks have become rather — wait for it — popular.

And so, it seems, people are overindulging on these potions.

“Why would they try to get you drunk off of a six dollar margarita immediately,” says TikToker @_yagirlj_. The on-screen caption asks, “why the Wicked margaritas so potent???? Omggg.”

Indeed, revelers are waking up post-Chili’s with a hangover so bad that just hearing Cynthia Erivo’s “Defying Gravity” vocal run could send them to the hospital.

No one, though, has quite become the face of this phenomenon quite like one 27-year-old in Utah, who first posted a viral review of the drinks, then the aftermath of his night.

“If you go to Chili’s to try the new ‘Wicked’ margaritas, don’t have seven of them,” Kyle Thorn says in a video with millions of views. He appears to have just woken up from a deep slumber, worse for the wear. “Just have two. Just try the green, try the pink and leave it at that. Take it from me, OK?”

He brings the phone closer to his face.

“The pink one was so good. Those are the best margaritas I’ve ever had in my life,” he emphasizes before groaning. “But I literally feel obliterated right now.”

“you got a Wicked hangover,” commented one user on TikTok.

“have you been changed….for good?” joked another.

One concerned soul said, “hi i bartend at chilis…SEVEN?” then added, “seven is just a LOT those ones are STRONG.”

George Felix, Chili’s chief marketing officer, says, “We’ve had a blast bringing a little magic to our Margarita of the Month lineup this fall.”

“Our guests are pulling their phones out the second The Witches Brew and Good Witch Margs hit the table,” he adds, “and we’ve loved watching how guests are getting into the fun and sharing that over-the-top energy on social.”

For Thorn, who has been back to Chili’s for more margs since his big night, it’s been fun to see the excitement from everyone on social media.

“The last time I went to Chili’s, I had people come up and tell me they were there to try the drinks because of my videos which I thought was so special and truly a dream come true!” he tells TODAY.com.

“Chili’s, ‘Wicked’ and margaritas are my three favorite things. I will be going back as many times as I can before the drinks are gone!”

Access Hollywood spoke to Cynthia Erivo ahead of her hosting duties at the upcoming Tony Awards on Sunday. She teased what fans can expect with the upcoming film, “Wicked For Good.”
