A trailer for “Stranger Things” Season 5 has finally — finally!! — been released.
Since the premiere of the show’s fourth season, star Millie Bobby Brown got married and welcomed a child, three seasons of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” came and went, and Taylor Swift released three brand-new albums (plus, two re-recordings).
So that’s all to say that it’s been a while.
The fifth and final season of the hit supernatural Netflix series will drop in three parts starting Nov. 26, the streamer announced in May. In the lead-up, fans have gotten sneak peeks through teasers and reveals, such as the official episode titles.
Now, just in time for Halloween, Netflix released on Oct. 30 a long-anticipated, nearly 3-minute trailer for Season 5 of “Stranger Things.”
The trailer shows the motley crew facing the fallout of their epic battle in Season 4 with the big bad, Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), during which they nearly lost their pal Max (Sadie Sink). That fallout looks like a whole lot more battling, though. We see the gang of teens, the adults in their lives and lots of other people with crazy weapons on a mission to finish what they started: Kill Vecna.
Set to an epic version of Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever,” the trailer previews blood and strife, with Mike (Finn Wolfhard) leading the planning of the group’s attack against Vecna.
“He’s planning to end our world,” Mike’s sister Nancy (Natalia Dyer) says at one point. “And he’s not gonna stop ’til we’re drained of every last ounce of suffering.”
The final frames also tease just how Vecna might plan to stage his comeback. As Will (Noah Schnapp) wriths on the ground, Vecna uses his telekinesis to lift him and bring him face-to-face.
“You are going to help me,” he says. “One last time.”
Netflix had previously said that this season kicks off in the fall of 1987.
“Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding,” the Season 5 synopsis previews. “As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
The first four episodes of “Stranger Things” Season 5 premieres at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 26. Three more episodes will drop on Dec. 25, followed by the final episode on Dec. 31. The series finale will also come to theaters the same day.
The titles of the season’s eight episodes are as follows:
- “The Crawl”
- “The Vanishing of …” (to be revealed at a later date)
- “The Turnbow Trap”
- “Sorcerer”
- “Shock Jock”
- “Escape from Camazotz”
- “The Bridge”
- “The Rightside Up”
