Woman dies after high-rise fire in Hollywood, authorities say

The elderly woman who was transported to Aventura Hospital on Tuesday afternoon following a high-rise fire in Hollywood has died from her injuries, officials said.

Authorities have not released her identity.

Fire broke out at Oceanfront Condominium

Two people were hospitalized after being overcome by smoke inhalation in a third-alarm fire Tuesday afternoon at the Edgewater Beach Towers, a 13-story oceanfront condominium complex located in the 300 block of Surf Road, officials said.

Both were initially expected to recover.

Chopper 4 images showed heavy black smoke and visible flames pouring from one of the units.

Firefighters and emergency personnel worked quickly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of residents throughout the building.

Resident and first responder hospitalized

Officials said the resident of the affected apartment was unharmed by the flames and had been evaluated by Hollywood Fire Rescue personnel.

Additionally, a woman was transported to Aventura Hospital after being overcome by smoke inhalation. CBS News Miami’s Abby Dodge reported that a first responder was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire, which was contained to one unit on the top floor, remains under investigation.
