Widow flips Palm Beach townhouse at loss for $16M, six months after purchase

Crystal Lahners, the widow of ophthalmologist Dr. William Lahners, flipped her Palm Beach townhome at a loss, six months after buying it.

Records show she sold the townhouse at 220 Brazilian Avenue to a Georgia entity named for the address. Christopher Leavitt with Douglas Elliman had the listing, and Gary Pohrer with Serhant brought the buyer.

Lahners bought the townhouse for $16.5 million in April. Her late husband, who died in 2021, was a partner with Center for Sight (CFS), an eyecare group with locations across the west coast of Florida. The partners sold CFS to US Eye for an undisclosed amount in 2019, forming the largest multi-specialty eye care organization in the state, according to published reports. Crystal Lahners remains a shareholder, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In February, Lahners listed her 2.7-acre waterfront estate at 8501 Midnight Pass Road in Siesta Key for $31.5 million, making it the Sarasota area’s most expensive listing. She pulled the home from the market in July, shortly after listing the Palm Beach townhouse for $17 million.

The Brazilian Avenue townhouse was built in 2022 on 0.2 acres. Spanning 4,000 square feet, it has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a pool, according to property records.

With the summer slow season over, Palm Beach sales are picking up, despite a weakening South Florida market. Also this week, SC Johnson billionaire heiress Winifred Johnson-Marquart paid $30 million for a landmarked home in an off-market sale.

Last month, media executive Jon Steinberg, who is known for founding Cheddar News, paid $14.6 million for a spec home in an off-market deal. Also last month, Pieter Taselaar, the founder of Lucerne Capital Management, sold his mansion for $29.5 million in an off-market deal. John Sculley, the former CEO of Apple, and his wife Diane Sculley also sold an oceanfront estate for $37 million.
