Price revealed: The Weeknd pays record $50M for Gables Estates mansion

The Weeknd closed on a waterfront mansion in gated Gables Estates for $50 million, making it the most expensive home ever sold in Coral Gables.

Brokers confirmed that the sale of the estate at 41 Arvida Parkway closed for $50 million, although the deed has not yet appeared in public records. The Real Deal reported earlier this month that The Weeknd, whose legal name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, was in contract on the $54.9 million listing.

Eddy Martinez and Roland Ortiz of One Sotheby’s International Realty had the listing, and Ortiz brought the buyer. They declined to comment on the identities of the buyer and seller.

The Weeknd, a Canadian-born four-time Grammy winner, performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2021, and created and starred in the HBO show “The Idol” alongside Lily-Rose Depp in 2023. In 2021, he bought a mansion in Los Angeles’ Bel Air neighborhood for $70 million.

The seller of the 1.2-acre Gables Estates property is oil recycling mogul Steven Lempera, who bought it at auction in 2019 for $25.5 million. Records show the nearly 19,000-square-foot mansion was built in 2018. It includes eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, a pool and a dock.

Lempera listed it for $49.9 million in 2020, and proceeded to remove and relist the property at varying prices for five years. It last hit the market for $54.9 million in June, and the estate went pending in September, Redfin shows.

It tops the previous price record in Coral Gables, set by the 2022 sale of 650 Casuarina Concourse for $45.3 million. The buyer was a Delaware entity linked to billionaire Citadel founder Ken Griffin, and it was one of the tri-county region’s most expensive sales that year.

Since the pandemic triggered an unprecedented wealth migration to South Florida, record deals in the most in-demand neighborhoods have become the norm. Earlier this month, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy paid a record $27.8 million for a waterfront Islamorada mansion in the Florida Keys.
