New details about Alec Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin’s frightening car accident have emerged.
One day after the Oscar nominee crashed his wife Hilaria Baldwin’s Range Rover into a tree while driving with his brother in East Hampton, N.Y., authorities addressed how the Oct. 13 incident occurred.
Alec, 67, was “avoiding the turning action” of a commercial truck registered to the National Waste Services when the collision took place, East Hampton Town Police Department Chief Michael D. Sarlo confirmed in a statement to Us Weekly published Oct. 14.
The statement also listed “a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the slippery and wet roadway conditions” as contributing factors in the collision, noting that no injuries were reported and no summons have been issued.
Hours after the accident, Alec confirmed he and Stephen, 59, were unharmed after he was “cut off” by a “garbage truck the size of a whale” while driving Hilaria’s SUV.
“To avoid hitting him,” he said in a video posted on his Instagram page, “I hit a big fat tree and crushed my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car — I feel bad about that.”

After thanking the officers who came to his and his brother’s aid, the actor shared his plans to reunite with his wife and their kids Carmen, 11, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 7, Eduardo, 4, María Lucía, 4, and Ilaria, 2, in the coming days.
“I’m going to L.A. to see my family,” he added. “Can’t wait. Going out to California to gather my family together, spend a few days out there and then come home.”
Stephen’s rep subsequently said the “Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas” star was “grateful no one was injured,” telling E! News in a statement, “He appreciates the concern and he can confirm that he and Alec are both safe and well.”
Hilaria, who was recently voted off “Dancing With the Stars,” also spoke out after fans reached out to her regarding the matter.
“I’m getting a lot of messages about the accident that Alec was in today, the car accident,” she said in an Instagram video. “No one was hurt, and that is the most important thing.”
