A pair of Colliers brokers jumped to Cushman & Wakefield, marking a continuing shake-up at South Florida’s commercial real estate brokerages.
Mitash Kripalani and Virgilio Fernandez joined Cushman as managing directors in Miami, where they will focus on investment sales for multifamily, land and mixed-use properties, according to a Cushman news release.
Each of the brokers spent roughly eight years at Colliers in South Florida.
After three years as a commercial broker with Douglas Elliman, Kripalani joined Colliers in early 2018, where he was vice president, according to his LinkedIn. Fernandez started with Colliers in early 2017 as senior director and then became vice president, his LinkedIn shows
Both have a CCIM, or Certified Commercial Investment Member, designation, and Kripalani was president of the Miami-Dade and Monroe counties’ chapter for CCIM.
Among their recent work, they represented Henry Pino’s Alta Development in purchasing a 1.3-acre Miami development site near the Miami River in 2022, at 1410, 1420 and 1428 Northwest 14th Avenue, 1420 and 1430 Northwest 14th Terrace and 1451 Northwest 14th Street for $14.6 million. Kripalani and Fernandez also represented one of the property’s sellers.
Last year, Alta started building the 16-story, 283-unit River District 14 short-term rental-friendly condo on the property.
In June, Fernandez represented Crescent Heights –– led by Russell Galbut, Sonny Kahn and Bruce Menin –– in the sale of its headquarters at 2200 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami’s Edgewater for $41.9 million. Buyer Trilogy Real Estate Group plans a tower with apartments and condos.
Fernandez and Kripalani also represented the buyer who paid $3.5 million for a roughly 6,100-square-foot site at 1660 Northwest 19th Terrace in Miami in April, according to real estate publication Traded. Fernandez also represented the seller in that deal. In May, Kripalani represented the buyer that paid $3.3 million for a 12-unit Hollywood multifamily building at 1815 McKinley Street, Traded reported.
South Florida’s commercial brokers have been playing musical chairs in recent years. Top office leasing broker Donna Abood joined Savills last year as vice chairman and co-lead of Florida operations. Abood moved from Avison Young, where she had spent nearly a decade.
Also last year, development and investment firm Foundry Commercial hired former CBRE broker David Bateman to lead Foundry’s South Florida commercial real estate services.
In 2023, prominent multifamily investment sales broker Robert Given and a team of four others –– Zach Sackley, Troy Ballard, Calum Weaver and Brad Capas –– jumped from Cushman & Wakefield to CBRE.
