Looking back at all of Taylor Swift's appearances on 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon

Looking back at all of Taylor Swift's appearances on 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon

Taylor Swift is going to be sipping coffee like she’s on a late-night show.

As will Swifties, who will be staying up past their bedtimes to watch.

Swift makes her return to late-night television this week to promote her new album “The Life of a Showgirl” – and perhaps even talk wedding plans.

That includes her first televised U.S. sit-down interview since releasing the album – and getting engaged – with an appearance Monday on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” That’s followed by a long-form interview Thursday as the sole guest on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in what has been dubbed a “TAY/kover” by the show.

It will be her seventh appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Fallon, making him the leader among current late-night hosts to have had the 14-time Grammy winner as a guest. She also appeared on the show five times with former host Jay Leno, making her debut on Feb. 13, 2007.

Fallon first teased Swift’s latest appearance with a coded video on social media on Sept. 25.

The video showed the late-night host at a roulette table, placing his chips on the numbers 10, 6 and 25. The ball then landed on No. 13 – a number which Swifties know all too well is Swift’s favorite.

Three showgirls – in full sequined and feathered leotards – then walked by Fallon in the hallway.

Swift will now be heading back down that hallway and into the “Tonight Show” studio – where she first debuted on Fallon’s show over a decade ago.

With the showgirl set to take the stage once again, here’s a look back at all of Swift’s “Tonight Show” appearances with Fallon as host.

August 13, 2014 – Taylor Swift’s debut on ‘The Tonight Show’ … and ‘Ew!’

Swift made her “Tonight Show” debut when she was 24 years old.

Fallon pressed her about what she planned to reveal during her upcoming livestream she had teased. She wouldn’t say – it turned out to be the announcement for her album “1989” that was released roughly two months later. Swift did, however, confirm to Fallon that she would be performing at that year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

In the sketch “Ew!” where Fallon is a female teenage host with blonde hair and braces, Swift played a 13-year-old named Natalie who likes to eat apricots, has a Band-Aid collection and spends a lot of time building Popsicle castles by herself.

February 17, 2015 – Swift and Fallon draw portraits and dance on jumbotrons

In a return trip to “The Tonight Show,” Swift and Fallon test their blossoming friendship by attempting to draw each other without looking down at the page.

They also collaborated on a medley of sporting event jumbotron appearances – which included lots of choreography, spilled popcorn, and Swift dumping a bucket of water on Fallon.

November 13, 2017 – Swift’s ‘New Year’s Day’ performance moves Fallon to tears

It was Fallon’s first night back on the job following the passing of his mother Gloria Fallon, and Swift appeared as a surprise musical performer.

“We wanted something special for this first show back, so we asked her on a complete whim, since she had been in town doing SNL,” former “Tonight Show” writer and producer Mike DiCenzo told Billboard at the time. “She said yes with zero hesitation.”

During Fallon’s opening monologue, he shared a childhood memory of how his mother would squeeze his hand three times to say, “I love you.”

When Swift performed the song “New Year’s Day” off her album “Reputation” that had released three days prior, it coincidentally included the lyric, “You squeeze my hand three times in the back of the taxi.”

“I could see Jimmy silhouetted at his desk dabbing his eyes with a tissue,” DiCenzo said. “We all lost it. It was a beautiful coincidence in a beautiful performance.”

October 3, 2019 – Video premiere of a ‘loopy’ Swift after eye surgery

Swift’s mother secretly gave Fallon never-before-seen video footage of the singer shortly after she underwent laser eye surgery.

“Your mom may or may not have videotaped you after surgery,” Fallon told a stunned Swift.

“For the television?!” Swift asked.

In the video, a “loopy” Swift, wearing protective goggles taped to her face, becomes emotional when she doesn’t get the banana she wanted. She’s later lying in bed with the banana when her mother tells her not to fall asleep while eating it.

“I’m not asleep. My mind is alive,” Swift replied.

Swift was promoting her recently-released album “Lover” and also discussed her upcoming tour.

She competed against Fallon in the “Name That Song Challenge,” where they attempted to guess a song being played by only one instrument at a time. The game ended when Fallon correctly guessing one of Swift’s own songs.

November 11, 2021 – Swiftie Easter egg origins and ‘Box of Lies’

Swift — on the eve of the release of “Red (Taylor’s Version)” — shared how the tradition of dropping cryptic clues for her fans began.

She also discussed the original 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well.”

Swift and Fallon also played a game of “Box of Lies,” in which they attempt to stump one another about what is hidden inside their mystery boxes.

October 24, 2022 – Eras Tour tease

Swift’s most recent “Tonight Show” appearance came shortly after the release of “Midnights.”

“You’ve done the albums, you’ve done the re-recordings, but also, you haven’t toured in like four years,” Fallon said.

“I know,” Swift responded. “I think I should do it.”

One week later, Swift announced her Eras Tour, which became a record-breaking tour that ran from March 2023 to December 2024.

BONUS: November 2, 2009 – Swift appears on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’

Before Fallon hosted “The Tonight Show” he hosted “Late Night.” In November 2009, he welcomed 20-year-old Taylor Swift, who one year prior had released her sophomore album “Fearless.”

The appearance opened with Fallon marveling over the height of the 5-foot-11 Swift.

“Yes,” Swift said, “sort of a giant.”

The two then discussed how she grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania and the origin of the term “Swiftie.”
