R&B legend Brandy suddenly walked off stage at the United Center in Chicago during her and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine Tour” on Saturday night, leaving concertgoers perplexed.
Videos posted on social media showed the co-headliners performing a duet of Brandy’s 1994 hit “Baby,” when the “Moesha” star appeared to experience technical issues and then exited the stage without saying anything. Monica continued with the performance and later wrapped up the concert, but the night ended without an expected performance of the duo’s hit duet “The Boy is Mine.”
Fans were perplexed, with many questioning the abrupt move on social media – and some going as far as to ask for a refund.
“Brandy and Monica, yall are my girls—but what was that ending? Chicago, I’m sorry,” one social media user said.
“I hope Brandy is ok… Chicago is not,” another stated.
Brandy apologized to fans in a social media post on Sunday, writing, in part, she experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint — and tried to return despite not feeling okay.
“With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, Unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts,” she said.
The singer thanked the crew for their support and Monica for continuing the performance and “stepping up with such grace and professionalism.”
Brandy explained she saw a doctor after leaving the United Center and has taken the proper precautions to “help moving forward.” She plans to return to the stage alongside Monica during Sunday night’s tour stop in Indianapolis.
Brandy’s complete letter to fans can be found below:
“To my Dear Fans in Chicago,
Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and—most importantly—your prayers.
I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.
I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling ok. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, Unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.
I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support.
I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward. Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me.
I look forward to returning to the stage—stronger and more grateful than ever—alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis.
With all my love,
Brandy”
