More than 14 years later, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s divorce is still making headlines.
The “Terminator” star made a playful dig at his 2011 breakup from the former CBS Morning News anchor — whose divorce was finalized in 2021 — while celebrating journalist Chris Wallace’s new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Sept. 18.
“I know a lot about journalists,” Schwarzenegger began in his speech. “I’ve been interviewed by thousands and thousands of journalists. But not only that, I was also married to a journalist.”
The 78-year-old added, “The only difference between Chris and Maria is that Chris has never taken half my money.”
E! News has reached out to Maria’s rep for comment but hasn’t heard back.
But this was not the first time Schwarzenegger joked about alimony in his divorce from Shriver 69.
“Jingle All the Way was the greatest Christmas movie of all time,” the actor shared of his 1996 holiday movie during an Amazon event this May. “They play it the whole month of December. I know because my ex-wife calls me about the residual.”

Though their breakup was initially difficult for Shriver — who said she had an emotional breakdown upon learning that Schwarzenegger’s affair family housekeeper Mildred Baena resulted in a son named Joseph Baena, now 27 — she and her ex have developed a cordial relationship over time.
In fact, the pair even recently reunited for their 32-year-old son Patrick Schwarzenegger’s wedding to Abby Champion, with their other kids Katherine Schwarzenegger, 35, Christina Schwarzenegger, 34, and Christopher Schwarzenegger, 27, also in attendance.
“‘It’s good to see everybody here,'” guest Rob Lowe recalled of Schwarzenegger’s wedding speech during the Sept. 17 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. “‘It’s a wonderful day. And Patrick is killing it now with The White Lotus.'”
And for Shriver, she’s excited to see what this new chapter brings for Patrick and the rest of their family.
“What a new era you are stepping into,” she wrote to her youngest son in a Sept. 18 Instagram post. “One filled with love, adventure, friends, great work, family, and god. May this new year of your life continue to bless you.”
The I Am Maria author added, “I’m so honored to be your mama. I love you deeply, and I’m so grateful to you for always including me, inviting me, and sharing your life with me.”
