Tropical Storm Dexter formed late Sunday night far off the coast of North Carolina.

The good news is that it will remain over the water and pass between Bermuda and eastern Canada.

Early Monday morning, the center of the system was about 255 miles northwest of Bermuda. It was moving to the east-northeast at 12 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.

The National Hurricane Center said the storm will speed up through early Tuesday and then slow down on Wednesday when it will likely become post-tropical.

While it may strengthen somewhat during this time frame, it poses no threat to land.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic, an area of low pressure could develop into a tropical system off the southeastern U.S. coast later this week. It will move north towards the U.S. coastline. The National Hurricane Center gives this disturbance a low chance of development.

A third area of interest is a tropical wave coming off of Africa. The National Hurricane Center said it has a medium chance of development later this week as it moves northwest across the Atlantic.
