Top Compass agent Angel Nicolas jumps to Serhant

Angel Nicolas, a top agent at Compass with more than $200 million in combined sales over the past year, left the brokerage to join Serhant, The Real Deal has learned.

Nicolas’ license was moved to Serhant on Monday, state licensing records show. Nicolas, a former professional baseball player, had been with Compass since 2019 and was named one of the brokerage’s top 100 agents for 2024.

Most of Nicolas’ 18-person team is also in the process of transitioning to Serhant, he said.

Nicolas has closed nearly $2 billion in sales since he became a real estate agent in 2016, according to a press release. Nicolas focuses on neighborhoods that include Coconut Grove, Gables Estates, Pinecrest, Ponce Davis and Southwest Ranches.

“It’s been a tough move to be honest because I am quite happy with Compass,” Nicolas said. Ryan Serhant, founder and CEO of his company, had been speaking with Nicolas over the past three years.

Nicolas said he was excited at the opportunity to start a nationwide luxury division at the brokerage.

“Him [Serhant] and I have been talking about how we can become the No. 1 team in Miami,” Nicolas said. “We both want to be No. 1 in all of Florida. That’s the plan.”

Nicolas brokered both sides of the $19.3 million sale of a penthouse at Grove at Grand Bay in 2023, which marked a record for Coconut Grove condo sales.

A team member of his, William Abreu, also a former professional baseball player, represented the buyer of a massive estate in Davie when it sold earlier this year for a record $25.5 million. Streamer Adin Ross purchased the property.

Nicolas said South Florida’s luxury sector has been stable, with demand still high for turkey homes. He expects demand will grow if Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor of New York City.

“The homes sitting on the market need a lot of work or are teardowns. Your special homes in special neighborhoods are setting records,” he said. Nicolas recently represented the seller in the $6.3 million sale of the home at 7425 Southwest 56th Avenue in Miami, which set a record for the Ponce-Davis neighborhood.

Serhant aims to open offices in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Miami Beach, Nicolas said.

Nicolas’ move marks a win for Ryan Serhant’s brokerage, which has been expanding in South Florida. In May, Serhant brought on Gary Pohrer to help lead the Palm Beach office. Pohrer was part of the Exclusive Group at Douglas Elliman.

Serhant first expanded to South Florida when it opened up shop in Delray Beach in 2023. The brokerage now has about 260 agents in Florida, including Tyler Cameron and founding agents Mariana Niro and Chris Prakas, according to state licensing records.

Compass declined to comment.
