Smoke from two brush fires burning in the Everglades are drifting over Fort Lauderdale and the western Broward County suburbs on Wednesday morning.

A fire dubbed the Mile Marker 39 fire had burned more than 1,600 acres by Tuesday afternoon, according to the Florida Forest Service. They said the second fire, named the Sawgrass Fire, had burned approximately 250 acres as of Tuesday afternoon. Both fires were 0% contained.

Both fires are far inland in Broward County and northwest of Fort Lauderdale.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for drivers in Broward. It said visibility along roadways may be reduced to 3 miles or less at times where the smoke is the densest. A west-northwesterly wind is pushing the smoke to the east across I-75 and into the populated areas.
