Colombian businessman Jorge Mattos and his wife, Patricia, sold their waterfront home on Miami Beach’s La Gorce Island for $32.7 million.
The sale of 68 La Gorce Circle, to a land trust, marks the highest per-square-foot land deal in the city, according to listing broker Dora Puig of Luxe Living Realty. It surpasses the Witkoff Group’s $1,370-per-square-foot sale of the waterfront lot at 4766 North Bay Road in June.
A trust in the names of Jorge E. Mattos Barrero and Sofia Patricia Toja Mondragon sold their 6,116-square-foot, five-bedroom and five-and-a-half-bathroom house to 68 LGC Revocable Trust, records show. The true buyer is unknown.
Mattos and his brother, Carlos, own Neos Group, a Colombian conglomerate that includes a construction company. They made their fortune through a car import and distribution company in Colombia.
The Mediterranean-style Miami Beach home, built in 1961 and expanded in 2001, sits on a 0.4-acre lot that faces north.
A company led by the couple paid $8.8 million for the property in 2015. Their investment paid off, as they sold it for nearly four times the price they paid a decade ago.
“The buyer bought it sight unseen,” Puig said, declining to identify the buyer or seller. “That tells you how attractive La Gorce Island is.”
Danny Hertzberg of the Jills Zeder Group at Coldwell Banker represented the buyer. Hertzberg declined to comment.
The deed lists an address in Miami that is the same as the address for companies managed by Haygo Demirian. An attorney manages the trust that purchased the home.
La Gorce is among the island neighborhoods in Miami Beach that’s seen a surge in price growth. In May, hedge fund manager Nick Maounis paid $75 million for the waterfront estate at 88 La Gorce Circle. That sale is a record for completed homes on the island, and one of the most expensive home sales in Miami-Dade County.
In March, developer James Curnin and his wife, Jennifer, sold their mansion at 66 La Gorce Circle for $60 million. Nearly a year ago, consumer goods multimillionaire Anand Khubani paid $100 million for the properties at 18, 22 and 24 La Gorce Circle, where he plans a massive estate.
