Travis Kelce may have needed a playbook for “Saturday Night Live.“
While the three-time Super Bowl champ is comfortable on the football field, he had to put in extra effort to not fumble during his March 2023 hosting gig of the sketch series, especially when it came to the cast’s weekly read-through.
“The table reading, for a guy that can’t really read that well, it was kind of a f—– situation,” Kelce said on the July 1 episode of the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast. “I was just trying to get through the reading instead of actually acting it out and giving it a voice and giving it a character.”
And though the Kansas City Chiefs tight end — who is dating Taylor Swift — enjoyed other aspects of his experience, he emphasized, “The table read was the hardest f—– part.”
Still, Kelce noted he was “so much more comfortable” doing the comedy series than a dramatic show, even though he still took the job very seriously.

“There was still a sense of, ‘I need to be a professional here,’” he continued, sharing that his “Saturday Night Live” mindset was, “I want to take advantage of this, but I want to have fun doing it,” and, “I don’t want to look like a loser doing this. I want to make them respect my approach and how I’m taking it serious.”
In fact, the “Happy Gilmore 2” star explained that acting is an entirely new muscle for him and different from his life on the football field.
“I’m so prepared for an NFL game,” Kelce shared. “In my career, I get an entire week to figure out a scheme, how I’m going to attack somebody, how I’m going to handle certain situations. When you go into acting, I just didn’t feel as prepared.”
However, the “Grotesquerie” actor has borrowed from his sports background, adding, “Every single director that I’ve met, I was like, ‘Coach me up. I’m here to be coached. If I suck, tell me I suck, and tell me how it can be better.’ I’m gonna take all criticism. I don’t give a f—.”
Here are five things to know about Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.
