Meet the groundbreaking new cast members in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

Gird your loins — there are new characters in town.

By all means, feign indifference about “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” But for those not moving at a glacial pop culture pace, here are the actors who have been tapped to join Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in the much-anticipated sequel.

Stepping up to bat — most likely in Jimmy Choos — is “Elementary” alum Lucy Liu as well as “The Sex Lives of College Girls” star Pauline Chalamet, E! News has learned. Joining them are “The Leftovers” alum Justin Theroux, “The Office” alum BJ Novak and Conrad Ricamora, who is currently starring as Mary’s Husband in Broadway’s “Oh, Mary!”

And he’s not the only stage star bringing their talents to the fictionalized fashion world: Helen J. Shen, who originated the lead role of Claire in “Maybe Happy Ending” on Broadway, has also signed on to the project.

Rounding off the list of recent confirmations is Caleb Hearon, a comedian and podcaster who recently hit the small screen with a hilarious cameo in Benito Skinner’s “Overcompensating.”

Also confirmed to have inked their name onto the project’s call sheet? “Bridgerton” star Simone Ashley, who celebrated her role with a series of fitting emojis — including a red high heel — shared to her Instagram Story July 9.

The new slate of actors will make up the ensemble tackling the ever-evolving fashion world. The sequel will follow Streep’s Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional magazine publishing. Making matters all the more complicated? Her former assistant Emily Charlton, played by Blunt, is now a high-powered executive at a luxury advertising company — and she has a long memory.

Kenneth Branaugh, as previously announced, is also joining the cast as Miranda’s husband, and Tracie Thoms is confirmed to be making her return as Lily, best friend to Hathaway’s Andy.

One original cast member not returning is Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend and villain of the people Nate Cooper. His absence shouldn’t come as too much a surprise, after all, as he and Andy seemingly parted ways at the end of the first film.

Stanley Tucci dishes on becoming a tech genius-gone-evil in the new Netflix film “The Electric State,” and shares behind-the-scenes stories from some of his most memorable movies, including “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Julie & Julia” and “The Lovely Bones.”

While exact details of the plot — and where many of the characters find themselves almost 20 years later — have remained under wraps, both Hathaway and Blunt previously mused over where their characters ended up.

As Hathaway told E! News in 2022, “I think that she is writing for a wonderful French women’s magazine. I think she’s a staff writer and she speaks French fluently. I don’t think she’s married, but she might have a child or two. I think she’s pretty fab.”

Meanwhile Blunt hopes Emily is “eating a nice French dip sandwich somewhere and she’s just happy.”

“Not a cube of cheese,” she jokingly added to E! last year, referencing her character’s former diet. “I hope she’s sort of transitioned to a full sandwich.”

And with production having started at the end of June, it’s likely fans will have their answers sooner rather than later.

In a never-before-seen moment, Anne Hathaway reacts to a cake inspired by “The Devil Wears Prada” and reveals what lines from the movie fans say to her most often.
