'Look Out': James Gunn reveals first poster for Milly Alcock's 'Supergirl' movie

“Superman” has taken movies by storm. Next year, it will be his cousin’s turn.

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios and director of “Superman,” took to social media on Wednesday to reveal the first look at “Supergirl.”

“Look Out. 2026,” a joint Instagram post from Gunn and “Supergirl” star Milly Alcock read, playing on the “Superman” motto.

Alcock, who starred as a young Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon,” made her on-screen debut as Supergirl at the end of “Superman.” Her appearance teased the next chapter of Gunn’s DC Universe, and Gunn has confirmed that “Supergirl” is next in the DC movie lineup.

While Supergirl may be related to Superman, Gunn said there’s plenty of differences between the two Kryptonians.

“She’s a mess. She’s a total mess,” Gunn said in an interview with ScreenRant. “I mean, I think as we learn, she’s had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background. He’s had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents that loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different than that. And she’s ended up different than her cousin.”

The “Supergirl” movie was first announced in January 2023 as “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” a title based on the 2021-22 comic book miniseries of the same name. Alcock was cast as Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, in January 2024.

While the teaser poster does not confirm the movie’s official name or release date, DC and Warner Bros. announced in June 2024 that the “Supergirl” movie would be released on June 26, 2026, with Craig Gillespie directing.

Other DC Universe projects in the work include season two of “Peacemaker” and the debut season of “Lanterns,” two shows that air on HBO.

Who does Superman call when he’s in trouble? His dog Krypto, of course. The four-legged friend steals the show in the new DC Studios blockbuster.
