The “Deal or No Deal Island” host and “Nonnas” star will host this year’s Clear The Shelters TV special, NBCUniversal Local announced Monday. The special premieres Friday, Aug. 8 on NBC.

Manganiello takes the hosting baton from Amanda Seyfried, who served in the role last year.

“These animals have been abandoned and the shelters taking care of them need help,” Manganiello said in a release. “That’s why I’m proud to participate in Clear The Shelters to help promote pet adoption and raise funds to help shelters operate.”

Manganiello has a special connection to animal adoption. He had never been a pet owner and wasn’t looking to become one when he met his dog Bubbles by happenstance roughly six years ago.

Bubbles, a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix who was 6 years old at the time, had been dealing with serious health issues and she had trouble landing in a forever home. But she took an immediate liking to Manganiello, who decided to take in Bubbles, get her medical help, and officially adopt her.

“Rescuing my dog, Bubbles, is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my entire life,” Manganiello said. “I hope people can feel my honest enthusiasm and that it encourages them to experience an ounce of what I have if they are in a position to welcome a shelter pet into their lives.”
