James Gunn can sea where Trisha Paytas was going with her baby name.
The “Superman” director and co-chairman of DC Studios expressed his amusement with the YouTuber’s decision to name her and husband Moses Hacmon’s newborn baby boy Aquaman Moses Paytas-Hacmon.
“I think that’s cool,” Gunn told Entertainment Tonight in a July 27 interview. “I mean, I hope he does okay in school.”
The 58-year-old joked that he had a “hard time” in school with the last name Gunn, detailing his experience with nicknames like Tommy gun, BB gun and raygun.
“Are they gonna call him AQ?” Gunn wondered, before asking if baby Aquaman would “get made fun of in school?”
He added, “Do kids make fun of kids anymore?”
However, despite Gunn’s concern, Frank Grillo and Tim Meadows, who joined him for the interview, both believed that baby Aquaman was “gonna be fine” growing up with his unusual name.

As for Paytas—who also shares daughters Malibu, 2, and Elvis, 14 months with Moses—she explained that the name Aquaman was “so perfect” for their third born as it combined her love of the movies and her husband’s love of water.
“Not only is it so related to me, but it’s also so related to Moses,” the 37-year-old said on the July 22 episode of her Just Trish podcast. “I’ve been wearing Aquaman t-shirts for years. I’ve gone to so many comic-cons for Aquaman. And I really fell in love when we rewatched Aquaman.”
She added, “Cancer is a water sign, Moses loves water. So then we’re like, ‘Okay, we need to think of water theme.’”
Before settling on Aquaman, the couple, who welcomed their son July 12, was also considering the name Water Snake, after a poem that Moses, 47, had written.
“I love ‘Water Snake,’ It’s the Year of the Snake, Moses is a snake,” Paytas continued. “We love water. I loved [the movie] Water World. I loved the name Water.”
“At the end of the day, Moses loves water,” she said. “I’ve adopted his philosophy.”
Who does Superman call when he’s in trouble? His dog Krypto, of course. The four-legged friend steals the show in the new DC Studios blockbuster.
