Elmo X account posts antisemitic messages and calls out Donald Trump during hack

The X account belonging to beloved “Sesame Street” character Elmo was hacked Sunday night and posted a series of antisemitic messages.

Six now-deleted posts went up Sunday night calling on people to “kill all Jews” and declaring President Donald Trump as the puppet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They also called for the release of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case and made a derogatory comment about Trump’s connection to the deceased financier.

“Elmo’s X account was compromised by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,” a spokesperson for Sesame Workshop, the makers of “Sesame Street,” said in a statement to NBC News. “We are working to restore full control of the account.”

Elmo’s X account, which has nearly 650,000 followers, is known for upbeat messages and photos with fellow “Sesame Street” characters and celebrity guests. Neither Elmo’s account nor the “Sesame Street” X account has made any new posts since the hack.

The hack comes days after xAI issued a lengthy apology over violent and antisemitic posts from Grok, X’s AI chatbot. Grok’s posts ranged from alleging “patterns” in the roles of Jewish people in Hollywood to praising Hitler, according to NBC News.

“Everything you could be afraid of is in that movie!” During a conversation about their new concept album based on the ’70s cult movie “The Warriors,” Lin-Manuel Miranda jokes how the film is a user’s guide on what to be afraid of in New York City.
