Panthers and Oilers go to double overtime tied at 4 in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night has gone to double overtime tied at 4.

Corey Perry tied it with 17.8 seconds left in regulation and goaltender Stuart Skinner pulled for an extra attacker. It’s the latest tying goal in a Cup final history.

The first two games of the final reached overtime for the sixth time and the first since 2014. Leon Draisaitl ended Game 1 with 31 seconds left in the first OT session on a power play after Tomas Nosek’s puck-over-the-glass penalty.

There were plenty of quality scoring chances for each team in this one.

Brad Marchand, who scored a short-handed goal in the second period to put Florida ahead, was turned aside by Skinner in tight, and Edmonton’s John Klingberg cleared the puck out of the crease. Sam Reinhart also was sprung for a breakaway and missed the net.

The Panthers are looking to be the league’s first back-to-back champions since cross-state rival Tampa Bay in 2020 and ’21. The Lightning’s first Cup run came in the playoff bubble in Edmonton with no fans in the stands.
