Mount Sinai pays $20M for site near Blue Lagoon

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida is planning an urgent care center on a development site acquired for $20 million near Miami’s Blue Lagoon.

An entity managed by Sedano’s Supermarkets CEO Agustin Herran sold four contiguous vacant parcels to Mount Sinai, a Miami Beach-based hospital led by CEO Gino Santorio, records and real estate database Vizzda show. The 2.3-acre assemblage is at 4401, 4431 and 4475 Northwest Seventh Avenue and 790 Northwest 44th Avenue.

Mount Sinai will use the Blue Lagoon site to build an outpatient center.

Between 2015 and 2016, Herran’s entity paid a combined $4.4 million for the four properties, records show.

Mount Sinai recently filed plans with the city of Miami to develop a 37,700-square-foot facility with an emergency department on the first floor and medical offices on the second floor, according to Vizzda. Orlando-based HuntonBrady Architects is designing the project.

Working with, Mount Sinai recently filed plans to develop the site with a 37,714-square-foot

The hospital has been in expansion mode for the last couple of years. In 2023, Mount Sinai dropped $32 million for 5.6 acres in Westchester, an unincorporated neighborhood in Miami-Dade County, where the medical care provider is planning a small four-story hospital with an emergency department and doctors’ offices. Also in 2023, Mount Sinai opened an urgent care and medical office building in Hialeah.

At its Miami Beach headquarters, Mount Sinai is close to completing a $250 million cancer treatment center named after Miami billionaire car dealer Norman Braman.

Other medical facility providers expanding around South Florida include the University of Miami Health System, or UHealth, which recently signed a lease to anchor a 11,200-square-foot space at Downtown Doral, a mixed-use community master developed by Coral Gables-based Codina Partners.

Last year, UHealth paid $68 million for three commercial properties in Miami’s Allapattah near the university’s medical campus, and bought a Macy’s furniture store in Pinecrest for $40 million.
