Blue Ivy Carter is Beyoncé’s ultimate protector.
During a stop in Chicago on the Cowboy Carter Tour May 15, the 13-year-old prevented a potentially disastrous scene onstage when her earring got caught in her mom’s hair mid-performance.
In a video posted on TikTok, Carter quickly sprang into action as Beyoncé, 43, carried on singing “Protector” with daughter Rumi Carter, 7, nestled in her lap. Within seconds, the teen successfully unhooked the jewelry from her ear and resumed her choreography without incident. When Beyoncé turned around to check on the hair mishap, Carter seemingly gave her an all-clear signal.
While fans have watched Carter become more confident as a performer since debuting her dance skills during the Renaissance Tour in 2023, Beyoncé—who also shares son Sir Carter, 7, with husband Jay-Z—previously admitted she wasn’t pushing for her firstborn to follow in her footsteps.
“She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage,” Beyoncé told GQ in September. “Blue wanted it for herself.”

Perhaps more importantly, she credited her daughter for putting in the work to captivate audiences in her own right.
“She took it seriously and she earned it,” she continued. “And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes.”
And while the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer may have been hesitant about letting Carter perform, she noted it wasn’t exactly a surprise that her children developed an interest in the arts.
“My kids come with me everywhere I go,” she noted. “They come to my office after school, and they are in the studio with me. They are in dance rehearsals. It’s natural that they would learn my choreography.”
Even Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles has marveled at her granddaughter’s natural abilities.
“She’s always creating something and working with her hands and her mind,” Tina told E! News in March. “She’s pretty amazing.”

Tina Knowles called in her “beauty guru” — 13-year-old granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter — for an eyebrow refresh. The multi hyphenate businesswoman, and Beyoncé’s mom, posted a video on Instagram of the teenager dyeing her eyebrows to hide a few gray hairs.
