A student at Miramar High School was taken into custody Monday morning after reportedly bringing a weapon on campus, the school district said..

In a message to the parents whose children attend the school, at 3601 SW 89 Avenue, Principal Winfred Porter said their security team found and confiscated the weapon, which was in the possession of one of their students, when the metal detector activated.

“I want to assure you this situation did not involve any threats toward our school, students or staff. The student will face appropriate school disciplinary measures,” Porter said in his message.

He reminded parents that school safety is everyone’s responsibility and encouraged them to remind their child about the severe consequences of bringing weapons or other banned items onto school campuses.
