Developer James Curnin sells his waterfront La Gorce Island mansion for $60M

Developer James Curnin and his wife Jennifer spent four years building their waterfront La Gorce Island mansion in Miami Beach. Last week, they sold the property for $60 million.

The Curnins sold the 9,640-square-foot home at 66 La Gorce Circle to a land trust named after the address, records show. The 0.4-acre property faces north, overlooking Normandy Isle.

“Brokers were obviously constantly reaching out. It was never really intended to be for sale,” said James Curnin, founder and CEO of Clara Homes, calling it a “really tough decision” to sell the house. It was completed in late August and his family had moved in by September.

Max Strang designed the house, and New York-based Pembroke & Ives handled the interior design and furnishings. The property was sold in an off-market deal that included most of the furniture, Curnin said. He declined to identify the buyer.

Jordan Karp brokered the sale.

Clara Homes paid $7.5 million for the property in 2020 and had the previous house demolished, records show. It was later transferred into the Curnins’ names.

On the same island, consumer goods multimillionaire Anand Khubani paid $100 million in September for the properties at 18, 22 and 24 La Gorce Circle, where he plans a massive estate.

Last year, Curnin’s Clara Homes sold an unfinished waterfront spec house on the Venetian Islands to Long Light Capital’s Justin Korsant for $23.1 million. Clara Homes also has projects in Miami’s Wynwood and Bay Harbor Islands.

The Curnins’ most recent sale on La Gorce Island adds to a string of recent big-ticket deals in Miami Beach and across South Florida.

Late last month, billionaire developer Vlad Doronin sold his waterfront Star Island estate for $120 million, setting a new record for home sales in Miami-Dade County. Doronin’s Garden Islands International LLC sold the 2.5-acre property at 26 Star Island Drive in Miami Beach to Constellation Drive LLC, a Delaware entity led by businessman Michael Ferro.

About the same time, gaming entrepreneur Richard Skelhorn paid $45 million for the waterfront mansion at 40 Palm Avenue in Miami Beach, setting a record for Palm Island.
