University of Miami Health System | Doral
The University of Miami Health System will expand its medical care outposts to Downtown Doral.
UHealth leased 11,200 square feet at the intersection of Northwest 87th Avenue and Northwest 53rd Terrace in Doral, according to the landlord’s news release. The health care outpost will offer eye care by Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and physical therapy, including pelvic floor rehabilitation and hand therapy.
Coral Gables-based University of Miami has an extensive health care network, including its Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, through its Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and University of Miami Health System.
Codina Partners, also based in Coral Gables, is the master developer of the 250-acre Downtown Doral mixed-use complex. The firm, led by father-daughter duo Armando Codina and Ana-Marie Codina, plans a 25,000-square-foot Downtown Doral retail addition where UHealth will open and serve as anchor tenant.
Construction of the retail wing is expected to start this quarter and be completed in the first quarter of next year, according to the release.
The UHealth outpost at Downtown Doral is separate from the medical provider’s existing six-story Doral facility at 8375 Northwest 53rd Terrace.
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ | Little River | Miami
James Beard award winner and pitmaster Rodney Scott will open his famous barbecue spot in Miami’s Little River.
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ leased 3,700 square feet at 7100 North Miami Avenue, marking the restaurant’s first Florida outpost, according to the landlord’s news release. It is expected to open this year.
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ, known for its signature South Carolina whole hog barbecue, is a concept by Birmingham, Alabama-based Pihakis Restaurant Group. Pihakis, founded by Nick Pihakis in 2014, is a collective of chefs, restaurateurs and tech professionals that operates several restaurant concepts in the South, according to the release.
Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ has outposts in Charleston, South Carolina, where Scott and Pihakis started the restaurant; as well as in Atlanta and Nashville. It also has restaurants in Homewood and Trussville, Alabama, the restaurant’s website shows.
Adventurous Journeys Capital Partners, or AJ Capital Partners, has hefty real estate investments in Little River. They consist of industrial buildings that the firm is retrofitting to retail and restaurant space. Led by founder Benjamin Weprin, the firm paid $2.4 million for the building where the barbecue restaurant will open, according to records.
AJ Capital and Miami-based MVW Partners also own a Little River portfolio. Last year, the buildings scored Bar Bucce, an Italian pizzeria from the group that owns Macchialina in South Beach, and gym Legacy and No Days Off as tenants.
Claudie | Brickell | Miami
Gregory Galy’s Riviera Dining Group opened a new restaurant in Brickell.
French-Mediterranean restaurant Claudie signed a 20-year lease for 9,400 square feet at 1101 Brickell Avenue in Miami, according to a Riviera Dining news release and the tenant’s website. The restaurant is in a retail space at the 19-story office building.
The restaurant is led by chef Michaël Michaelidis, who has contributed to 26 Michelin stars in his career, the release says.
Miami-based Riviera Dining’s popular concepts include Mila and Bâoli in South Beach.
Brickell-based Florida East Coast Realty, led by the Hollo family, owns the Brickell property.
LunaSol | Wynwood | Miami
Goat Hospitality Group opened LunaSol restaurant and lounge in Miami’s Wynwood.
LunaSol leased 5,000 square feet at 158 Northwest 24th Street, for a 125-seat lounge designed by Carlos Rodriguez of Escala Forma and a restaurant with a menu created by James Beard award winner and chef Donatella Arpaia, according to a Goat Hospitality news release.
Derek Gonzalez is founder and CEO of Goat Hospitality.
Records show the Wynwood building is owned by an entity managed by attorneys Ariel Saban and Robert Solomon of South Florida law firm Saban + Solomon, as well as Iris and Jack Saban.
