MIAMI – In a case first thought to be about road rage, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said a dispute between two men led to a shooting Wednesday morning in Northwest Miami-Dade.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s detective said they are investigating the shooting, which occurred on NW 27th Avenue near NW 101st Street just before 8:30 a.m.
Justin Ceus said he heard two people arguing before gunshots rang out.
“More than likely… You know, one said this, one said that and then a few shots went off,” he said. “The four shots were really loud, really loud.”
The injured man then went to a nearby gas station to get help. Gina Hernandez said she saw him.
“When I got closer to see what was going on, I saw the guy bleeding. He was bleeding everywhere. He was already on the phone with 911,” she said.
“You’re always going to have bad stuff going on in the suburbs. Everywhere, it’s bad. What really concerns me is my son-my son is 15 years old. He could have been walking to the gas station to buy candy, and that bullet could have hit him. That concerns me. God forbid that ever happens.”
The sheriff’s office said the injured man is in stable condition at the hospital. They did not say whether anyone had been taken into custody.
Some business owners told CBS News Miami they were worried about their safety after the incident.
Beth Lluis, who owns Atlantic Fire Equipment next to where the shooting happened, said her family’s business has been there for 45 years.
“We heard some gentlemen outside, and we heard loud voices. Then, after a few minutes, we heard a gunshot go off. Maybe five minutes later, we heard a helicopter, and then police were outside,” she said. “It is unsettling. We work here and come here every day at 8 in the morning, and this happened just a few minutes after we arrived. This definitely made us concerned about safety.”
Barbara Mosquera, owner of La Malquerida restaurant and lounge next to where the shooting happened, also expressed concern.
“I don’t know who they are. The violence in Miami is crazy,” she said. “They came here from somewhere else and had an argument.”
A spokesman for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said detectives are releasing limited information as the investigation continues. It is unclear what led to the shooting. Detectives have been reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. Two white vehicles were towed from the scene.
