The Florida Panthers are unusual. And coach Paul Maurice suggests that as a compliment – WSVN 7News | Miami Information, Temperature, Athletics | Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Ordinarily at playoff time, this would be bulletin-board product: A coach in the NHL referred to the Florida Panthers as bizarre.

Except this time, nobody minded. For the reason that the guy who claimed it was Panthers coach Paul Maurice.

Odd, goofy and one of a kind are just some of the terms Maurice works by using to describe his crew, and he’s indicating those people words in the most endearing way achievable. To him, they are all badges of honor, section of the reasons why the Panthers completed with 110 details, gained the Atlantic Division for the 2nd time in 3 a long time and have a whole head of steam heading into a to start with-round playoff collection with the rival Tampa Bay Lightning.

“There’s a lot of fellas that have been below for a extended time, we’ve been jointly and everyone’s wonderful,” Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov claimed. “Everyone’s really serious when we go on the ice and when we have to work. That is the best portion of it. And, off the ice, certainly we want to be as comfortable as feasible, joke close to, that type of things. We appreciate investing time with each other.”

The way Maurice sees it, the additional enjoyable the Panthers have, the superior. The team’s exercise facility that opened this time was made with some of that in mind, loaded with amenities designed to make the players want to expend even a lot more time collectively. And every single locker room in athletics has a persona, a heartbeat to it — but Maurice insists there’s one thing diverse about Florida’s.

Nobody is safe and sound from the jokes in there. Not Barkov, not Matthew Tkachuk, not Aaron Ekblad, not Sergei Bobrovsky, not even Maurice himself.

“Goalies have this strange superstitious detail and I’m not superstitious,” backup goalie Anthony Stolarz claimed. “I’m cracking jokes with the guys, conversing on the bench in involving durations, hoping to just lighten the mood any way I can. But goalies are kind of identified for getting a little unusual. So, I check out to stick to that stigma just a very little little bit.”

Like all hockey rooms, Florida’s is a melting pot stuffed with Individuals, Canadians, Russians, Swedes, Finns, even a Latvian. Plenty of distinct backgrounds, tons of languages spoken, and it’s only normal for gamers with equivalent stories to gravitate toward one particular one more.

Not so with the Panthers. Stolarz states he’s been to dinner on street excursions with just about everyone on the roster, and Maurice figures that just about everyone in the room can say that as very well.

“It’s a restricted group for guaranteed,” explained Florida forward Sam Reinhart, who scored 57 plans this period, 27 of them on the ability play. “I’ve recognised that from Day 1. I imagine as I have progressed below, year in and calendar year out, it’s gotten even closer. I think when you have received that main team, it’s easy for guys to come in and just fit in and come to feel cozy. It is crucial.”

This is why it’s so vital: The Stanley Cup playoffs will test any team. Wins are excellent, losses are tragic. The emotional ebbs and flows can vary not just by the day, but by the period, even by the shift in some cases.

If bonds and trust within a roster haven’t been fashioned by now, they in all probability won’t be. Maurice understands he doesn’t have to worry about that — the weirdness, as he phone calls it, places him at simplicity with the crew about to enter the most essential portion of the season.

As he set it, the place lets every player — and the mentor — to be goofy when necessary, without the need of anxiety.

“We’ve acquired some distinctive fellas in there,” Maurice said. “We’ve acquired some men that just don’t appear like professional athletes and they are elite at it. Heaps of various personalities. So, what I imagine you find is because of the place the way it is, so accepting, fellas are wholly comfy genuinely remaining by themselves — and then that weirdness or uniqueness will come out.”
