Nova Southeastern College swimmers intention for nationwide championship gain – WSVN 7Information | Miami News, Temperature, Sports | Fort Lauderdale


DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) – As the collegiate swimming and diving championships kick off this 7 days, consideration turns to a group hoping to be topped champion: Nova Southeastern College.

Becoming a member of the ranks of Florida’s aquatic powerhouses, the University of Miami and the Florida Gator, the sharks are set to make waves in their quest for a countrywide title.

“Lots of young ones are finding defeat up just ’cause of the workload that they have to set in around four and a half times,” claimed Sharks head mentor, Ben Hewitt. “They’re prepared for it. So, we’re just acquiring healthful and getting again to work and wonderful tuning a little bit extra.”

Hewitt is in his eighth time top the Nova Southeastern University guys and ladies groups. Both are at present nationally ranked in Division II NCAA. The head mentor has built a countrywide powerhouse by recruiting swimmers regionally and internationally.

The defending Division II champion women’s crew is led by Emily Trishman, a higher education junior from northern Fort Lauderdale and a five-time national champion.

“I’m just one more swimmer. I’m there to get the work completed and that’s why I’m gonna maintain going about it,” she claimed. “This 12 months, I think we know what we’re coming for . We undoubtedly have the knowledge and we’re not gonna give up. I imagine we’re much more in the underdog situation, in my view. Some may possibly disagree but I feel that just tends to make us have a minimal extra fight in ourselves.”

A person of Emily’s teammates, Solana Capalbo, hailing from Cooper Metropolis, is a 4-time conference winner.

“When I arrived below as a freshman, I was super shy. I was pretty intimidated by the crew,” she claimed. “I’ve developed into the leader of the crew and the a single that everyone appears to be like to for support.”

The men’s group will be on the lookout for their initial-ever countrywide title. They have prepared themselves in observe for what lies ahead.

“We always force ourselves,” said Gustav Henriksen, a Sharks sophomore swimmer. “We go quite speedy in instruction. It is significant intensity because we do a whole lot far more pace perform than just a race.”

With the Division II Championship starting off Tuesday, the Sharks are prepared to compete, fielding 12 gals and 7 gentlemen. Missing a diving groups, Nova will concentrate on dominating the swimming situations to accumulate points.
