Shannon was just 19 and a freshman at Emory College when she disappeared again in March of 1994, from an off-campus, section-time career.

She was operating as a softball scorekeeper when she went lacking in the course of her lunch break.

“She was my incredibly own superhero,” claimed Shannon’s sister, Monique, who remembers the prolonged-agonizing wait around for her sister’s coworker, Butch Hinton to admit he kidnapped, raped and murdered her sister.

“But Hinton was welcoming…he was charming…you know what else he was? He was a convicted sexual predator, who 12 several years earlier experienced raped a 14-calendar year-old woman.”

Shannon’s high university soccer mentor Angel Menendez stated the blame is all on Butch, but there are ways he said Shannon could have taken that perhaps, just perhaps could have saved her.

“If you are in the vehicle with anyone, and you comprehend that this is not a great plan…pull the steering wheel.”

Angel reported Shannon did not notify any person she was heading out to lunch.

“Who she was heading to lunch with, what their plans had been…exactly where they had been going. And and finally, if and when there was an option to draw awareness to herself when she recognized she was in hazard…practically nothing transpired.”

Hundreds of students walked out of the protection assembly with whistles in hand.

Shannon’s sister, dad, and late mother even now you should not have closure.

Hinton was convicted even while Shannon’s physique has by no means been identified. Her spouse and children works tirelessly to keep Hinton powering bars, but he’s up for parole again in 2025.

“I have no say, it is really up to the parole board to determine if he carries his bible plenty of all over the jail. He may get out…and I am extremely cynical when it will come to that due to the fact that’s what they all do. Criminal offense of enthusiasm, theft, you can rehabilitate people people…sexual predators, you can’t.”

The Melendi family members claimed their basic safety assembly at Southwestern marked the kickoff of their marketing campaign to gather signatures to request the parole board not to contemplate permitting Hinton out.
