Vehicle ends up at the bottom of pool of Broward County property


FORT LAUDERDALE — A 79-calendar year-aged grandfather experienced to be rescued Tuesday afternoon by his family following he drove his new Mercedes Benz into the pool of the family’s Margate home.

Aerial video from the scene showed photos of the screened-in pool in which the auto finished up adhering to the incident at the property in the 1400 block of NW 62nd Terrace, just off Margate Boulevard.

CBS Information Miami’s Peter D’Oench spoke with the car’s driver, who was determined as Jacques Dieudonne.

“My grandson requested me to go the vehicle,” he explained. “I notify you I genuinely don’t know how this transpired. Only God is aware of. I are unable to reveal.”

The incident resulted in a frantic hard work to get the gentleman out of the vehicle.  

“My son referred to as me and explained, ‘Grandpa drove his motor vehicle in to the pool,” stated Anne Dieudonne through tears even though conversing about her father and the incident. “I don’t know how this happened. I was not there. The auto experienced just been sent this early morning from New York and he was likely to ship it to Haiti before transferring back again house there.”

The family is now trying to establish what comes following.

“I will not know what is heading to come about now or if insurance plan will go over one thing like this,” Anne Dieudonne explained. 

Kurtz Methelus, the driver’s 25-12 months-old grandson, reported the motor vehicle brushed him prior to it landed in the pool.

“My grandfather experienced just gotten the car or truck at 11 this morning,” Methelus said. “I guess he must have mistaken the gas pedal for the brakes and he practically hit me straight on. He would have run me more than experienced I not moved.”

Relations were being frantic soon after the accident.

“I yelled to my auntie, ‘He’s in the pool! He is in the pool!,'” Methelus explained. “‘Get up, get up. We have to help grandpa!'”

He said he was far too wounded to soar in the pool but explained his sister and his aunt rescued the driver from the pool and the submerged car or truck.

A spokesman for the Margate Law enforcement Department mentioned the company is informed of what occurred and mentioned it was beneath investigation.

No other accidents were claimed in the course of the accident.
