A St. Lucie County deputy in the beginning tried to halt the suspect early Friday since he was driving at two times the velocity restrict, but disengaged many minutes afterwards. Trooper Zachary Fink then picked up the pursuit, making an attempt to end the motorist out of worry he was endangering other motorists, stated Col. Gary Howze, who heads the Florida Freeway Patrol.
After the suspect designed an abrupt U-flip into the reverse route of freeway targeted traffic, Fink adopted, turning into the path of the tractor-trailer. The truck’s driver died at the scene and the trooper was airlifted to a healthcare facility wherever he died, the company claimed.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis claimed on social media that “our hearts go out to” the trooper’s loved ones and the Florida Highway Patrol.
