NEW YORK — A driver hoping to escape police struck and hurt eight people on a sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan overnight Sunday.

The driver had crashed into Boris Torres’s Peruvian cafe.

The chase started at about 1:30 a.m. Monday when police responded to an argument on the corner of 33rd and Seventh.
