A 72-year-outdated Florida guy was arrested Wednesday early morning for evidently threatening to destroy a member of Congress — apparently Bay Space Rep. Eric Swalwell — and his small children, according to the Southern District of Florida United States Attorney’s Place of work.
Michael Shapiro, a resident of the Palm Seashore County metropolis of Greenacres in Florida, allegedly remaining various threatening voicemail messages at a Congressperson’s congressional business in Washington, D.C., in accordance to a launch issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The criminal grievance pointed out that Shapiro allegedly made the phone calls from his residence on Dec. 19, 2023.
The assertion claimed that in one of the messages, Shapiro said that he was going to “occur after you and eliminate you …” In a different concept, he mentioned that he was going to “occur and destroy your little ones …” The felony grievance in opposition to Shapiro even more alleges that he pleaded responsible in federal courtroom in 2019 for creating threatening communications to another target.
Even though the statement from the Southern District of Florida United States Attorney’s Workplace did not specify who was specific by the threatening voicemail messages, Rep. Swalwell posted on social media about the arrest.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office environment explained Shapiro made his preliminary visual appearance Wednesday early morning prior to U.S. Justice of the peace Choose Bruce E. Reinhart for the Southern District of Florida.
Swalwell, who represents California’s 14th congressional district covering most of japanese Alameda County and a portion of central Contra Costa County, has consistently been targeted by threats. A 22-year-aged Pennsylvania male pleaded responsible to building threatening cell phone phone calls to Swalwell’s Bay Region places of work in the slide of 2022.
Previous calendar year, Rep. Swalwell noted previous 49ers fullback Bruce Miller soon after Miller threatened him on social media. Swalwell also spoke of acquiring “several loss of life threats” day by day last summer.
“My young children will not participate in in our front garden mainly because we get letters to the residence that are also threats,” he informed CBS Information on “The Takeout” this 7 days. “People have proven when they simply call and say, ‘I know wherever you live’ and then you get a letter at the residence, it shows they possibly do.”
