TALLAHASSEE — A Florida House Republican on Tuesday proposed offering the state manage of investigating complaints towards legislation enforcement and correctional officers, having absent authority from nearby officials.
Rep. Wyman Duggan, R-Jacksonville, submitted the “preemption” bill (HB 601) for thing to consider through the 2024 legislative session, which will commence Jan. 9.
“It is the intent of the Legislature that the receipt, processing, and investigation of complaints in opposition to regulation enforcement officers and correctional officers, and the legal rights and privileges afforded to these types of officers even though underneath investigation, utilize uniformly during the state,” the bill claims.
Underneath it, neighborhood governments could not go ordinances or regulations associated to investigating grievances about misconduct by legislation enforcement and correctional officers.
Also, the bill would bar ordinances or regulations about civilian oversight of law-enforcement agencies in investigating misconduct grievances.
