TALLAHASSEE — Walt Disney Parks and Resorts moved Friday to narrow a federal lawsuit that alleges point out officials unconstitutionally retaliated from the corporation mainly because of its opposition to a 2022 regulation that limited instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in colleges.
Disney attorneys submitted a motion seeking acceptance to amend a lawsuit submitted in April against defendants including Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The lawsuit arrived right after DeSantis and Republican lawmakers this calendar year accepted a bill that replaced the longstanding Reedy Creek Advancement District with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
Disney was carefully aligned with the Reedy Creek district, though the bill gave DeSantis power to appoint users of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board.
Disney alleges that the change was retaliatory in violation of the Initially Modification and should be blocked.
The lawsuit has involved problems stemming from progress agreements attained by Disney and the former Reedy Creek Enhancement District board.
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board and the Legislature took techniques to void the agreements.
In trying to get to amend the federal lawsuit Friday, Disney stated it would drop the troubles connected to the progress agreements and emphasis only on the retaliation issue.
At least in section, that is because Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District also are battling about the advancement agreements in a situation filed by the district in Orange County circuit courtroom.
U.S. District Choose Allen Winsor on Friday denied the movement to amend the lawsuit for a procedural reason but said Disney can take care of the dilemma and refile the motion.
