MIAMI — The metropolis of Miami Beach front on Wednesday formally appointed Wayne Jones as chief of the department, to switch previous Chief Richard Clements following his retirement.
The appointment of Jones, who will now be the city’s very first Black law enforcement chief, came during a conference of the Miami Seashore commission and had been greatly anticipated.

“Main Jones has demonstrated his dedication to superb general public services all over his 27-12 months career with the Miami Seaside Law enforcement Department,” City Supervisor Alina T. Hudak claimed in a created assertion. “He commenced as a patrol officer and obtained the regard and admiration of his superiors and peers as he moved up as a result of the ranks. I am confident he will establish on MBPD’s legacy and choose the office to the future degree.”
Jones, who joined the agency in 1996, gets to be the city’s first Black law enforcement chief after holding each rank in several spots of the department to consist of distinctive operations, local community affairs, interior affairs and criminal investigations. He was appointed deputy chief in 2019.
