MIAMI — Even with the rain, men and women flocked to Really hard Rock Stadium Saturday night to commemorate the Juneteenth holiday break.
“We do this mainly because it is important,” said Katrina Wilson, Vice Mayor of Miami Gardens.
The occasion featured a vibrant ambiance with food, tunes, and numerous aspects of Black culture. However, Vice Mayor Kartina Wilson emphasised that the celebration held a further importance.
“All of these holiday seasons are not just about celebration but they’re about commemoration. Heading again and revisiting why we are right here,” Wilson discussed.
Juneteenth, noticed on June 19th, marks the working day in 1865 when slaves in Galveston, Texas uncovered of their flexibility. This announcement arrived two many years following the Emancipation Proclamation was issued and formally signaled the stop of slavery in the United States.
