PETALUMA — Some are born unattractive, other people accomplish ugliness and some have ugliness thrust upon them. In the case of Scooter, crowned the World’s Ugliest Pet dog Friday, it seems to have been the former, along with his “uniqueness and appeal” that received around the judges at the once-a-year contest.
The levels of competition, held in Petaluma as element of the Sonoma-Marin Honest, encourages dog adoption and showcases remarkable canines that have defied adversity – in the scenario of Scooter, who has deformed hind legs, a slender escape from getting euthanized.

And of course, you will find the seven-yr-aged Chinese Crested’s, er, deficiency of aesthetic attraction, what with his lolling tongue, sparse hair and ratlike tail.
Despite it all, the pet has not only survived but prevailed, winning the hearts of the judges and the major prize of $1500 and a trophy.
“I am overjoyed and extremely proud that Scooter has been crowned the winner of the World’s Ugliest Doggy contest,” said Scooter’s operator, Linda Elmquist, in a statement. “Irrespective of the difficulties he has confronted with his deformed hind legs, Scooter has defied all odds and shown us the real meaning of resilience and determination.”
Soon following he was born, Scooter’s breeder brought him to an animal management facility in Tucson, Arizona with the intention of obtaining him euthanized, contest organizers stated. But Scooter lived to explain to (or at least wag) the tail and is equipped to wander with the support of a cart.
“This one of a kind party will allow us to celebrate the amazing resilience and splendor uncovered within these special canine. Each and every contestant has a remarkable tale to tell, and they serve as a testomony to the power of enjoy, compassion, and the indomitable spirit of these amazing animals,” said Tawny Tesconi, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Reasonable.
