FORT LAUDERDALE — Fellow law enforcement officers testified in the scenario towards former faculty resource officer Scot Peterson.
He is on trial, accused of not racing into Marjory Stoneman Douglas Large University to go following the shooter who was opening fire on learners in 2018. Instead, he took include behind a pillar.
“He’s standing there, he could have experienced his firearm in his hand, but standing there, probably touching his radios few of periods, that is genuinely it,” recalled former Coral Springs Police Officer Richard Vest.
Peterson’s attorney argued he didn’t cost in simply because he failed to know wherever the gunfire was coming from. He put a drama trainer on the stand stating she thought it was coming from somewhere else.
“I heard what I considered were being firecrackers off in the length. It sounded like it was coming from the soccer discipline,” Melody Herzfeld claimed.

“No,” Herzfeld claimed.

“No,” she reported.
Fellow BSO deputy Richard Vandereems went in that day, expressing it’s crucial you find the shooter, even if it usually means jeopardizing your very own lifetime.
“For the reason that you have unarmed small children, unarmed academics and I’m in a bulletproof vest with a gun. I’d rather have him shoot at me than shoot at the children,” he stated.
Peterson faces 11 prices together with felony youngster neglect and culpable negligence. Testimony resumes on Monday.
