Person bitten by bull shark in Keys talks about ordeal


MARATHON – Spearfishing is 20-12 months-outdated Kevin Blanco’s passion, but his adore for the water landed him at Jackson Memorial South right after an face with a bull shark.

“When he actually acquired a keep of my leg, I was like, wow, like it occurred, I bought little bit,” claimed Blanco.

Blanco and his friends have been deep sea spearfishing in close proximity to Marathon Thursday afternoon, and while he was 70 ft under water scoping out fish, another creature was scoping him out.

“I just see a big gray figure, of him just there, and I see it each time I shut my eyes, it was a bull shark, and it was likely all around 9 to ten feet, possibly all around 500 kilos,” reported Blanco.

Within seconds, Blanco states the shark attacked him, biting him 2 times on his left leg.

“I will not genuinely don’t forget like the soreness, but I recall the pressure and the drive that he hit my leg with, it felt like I bought hit by like an F-150 and the force of just like gradually closing on my leg, everything was heading in sluggish motion,” claimed Blanco.

Blanco’s friends quickly switched to survival mode, pulling him to the floor and calling 911.

“I took my belt off of me and my bodyweight belt and I took all the weights off and I tightened on his leg as tough as I probably could due to the fact he was losing a large amount of blood quickly,” mentioned Daniel Maduro, Blanco’s mate who rescued him.

Rescue teams arrived speedily, airlifting Blanco to Jackson Memorial South.

Health professionals say the chunk was just inches away from a main artery.

“I rarely know Danny, who I look at a hero. What he did was miraculous,” said Omar Blanco, Kevin’s dad.

Omar is a captain with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and knows just how vital response is when it will come to emergencies like this.

“All the things that could’ve long gone incorrect, went proper in this problem,” claimed Omar.

Kevin is predicted to be Ok, and when we questioned him if this experience will avert him from likely fishing again…

“Totally not. I’ll be back as brief as I can.”

Doctors say Kevin will be released in about a week.
