TALLAHASSEE – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ reappointment of condition Surgeon Normal Joseph Ladapo was confirmed Thursday by the Republican-controlled Senate more than objections from Democrats.

The Senate voted 27-12 alongside celebration strains to verify Ladapo, who was initially appointed in September 2021.

Sen. Tina Polsky, D-Boca Raton, criticized Ladapo ahead of Thursday’s vote, pointing to a report in the Tampa Bay Times about a controversial recommendation by Ladapo that younger males not obtain COVID-19 vaccinations simply because of hazards of cardiac issues. Polsky mentioned Ladapo omitted information “that showed it is “more dangerous to get COVID than to get the vaccine” for the younger males.

“If we just blindly vote through this gentleman, we are saying it is really Alright to lie on scientific research that will perhaps decide the outcome of someone’s lifestyle,” Polsky stated.

In reaction to the Times report, Ladapo said his “selections go on to be led by the uncooked science — not worry.”

Ladapo, who doubles as secretary of the Florida Section of Wellness, has joined DeSantis in questioning the success of COVID-19 vaccines, opposing lockdowns and rejecting mask and vaccination requirements. The Senate also confirmed 15 other company heads Thursday.
