FORT LAUDERDALE – The research for a new superintendent to lead the Broward School District strike a snag Tuesday when a number of board members expressed disappointment with the applicants.
“The pool is weak” declared board member Torey Alston.
Out of 26 names submitted, the consultant discovered four major candidates:
Valerie Wanza, who is present acting main of employees in the Broward Faculty District.
Peter Licata, who is an assistant superintendent in Palm Seaside County.
Jason Nault, who is an associate superintendent in a Chicago area college district.
And Luis Solano Deputy Superintendent of Educational institutions in Detroit.
Expert Dr. Ralph Ferrie instructed the board that condition politics and other factors were discouraging other competent candidates from applying “The political surroundings, the Sunshine Law and the revolving door of superintendents below,” he suggests.
Board member Torey Alston disagreed saying other candidates were being using their interest to leverage superior discounts at their recent district.
But board member Debbi Hixon felt it is a element. “We are living in paradise and folks are residing in snow since they really don’t want to be micromanaged.”
